The Association Committee

The association “Frënn vum Camino de Santiago de Compostela a.s.b.l.”, founded in 2004, is dedicated to researching and disseminating information about the Way of St. James and the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The association's activities include providing pilgrims' passports, signposting the Way of St. James in Luxembourg, and organizing events to promote the Way of St. James. The association works closely with national and foreign organizations pursuing similar objectives.

History

Who was James the Great?

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Spanish Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, located in the historic center of the city of Santiago de Compostela (Galicia), is the destination of one of the greatest pilgrimages of medieval Europe.

It stands on a tomb attributed to the apostle James, and is the destination of the Camino de Santiago. Thanks to episcopal and papal recognition of the bones found as relics of St. James, the Cathedral of St. James is considered to be the church of the tomb of the Apostle James. The Armenian Cathedral of St. James in Jerusalem, however, claims possession of the apostle's skull.

The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and the Compostela pilgrim routes were the determining factor in Galicia and Spain's entry into medieval cultural circles. (Source: Wikipedia)
